Where were the Vikings from? (Geography)
Strand: People and other lands
Strand Unit: An environment in another European country
We started this class with a brief discussion on the Vikings.
The Vikings came from the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. They were mainly fishermen or farmers, living along the coastlines of these countries or along the rivers which ran into the seas. The Vikings that landed on Irish shores were predominantly Norwegian. But what do we know about Norway? Where is it? What is the climate like there? Why were they such sea travellers? In order to equip the children with this knowledge, I dedicated a Geography lesson to the study of Norway. |
